Pneumatic Diaphragm Actuator

Pneumatic diaphragm actuators operate pneumatically using a low pressure air supply from a controller, positioner or other source. It is a simple, reliable and economical product.

The net output thrust of a pneumatic diaphragm actuator is the difference between the diaphragm force and the opposing spring force. Molded diaphragms are used to provide linear performance and increased travel. Its size depends on the required output thrust and available air supply pressure.

Various styles include

Direct acting - increased air pressure pushes the diaphragm and extends the actuator stem;

Reaction - increased air pressure pushes the diaphragm and retracts the actuator stem;

Reversible - some small actuators can be assembled for forward or reverse action;

Direct acting unit for rotary valves - increased air pressure pushes down on the diaphragm, which may open or close the valve, depending on the orientation of the actuator stem on the valve shaft.
